Beach Babes

Our overnight at High Cliff Hotel was spent tossing and turning on a very uncomfortable bed, which wasn't quite what we were looking for.

It was unstaffed and offered a breakfast tray that we didn't want, so we took our time and waited for the Hwb to open. A nice  community space and café, we enjoyed our respective meals.

Today's walk was much shorter than yesterday  - only 6 miles, but it had more up and down and of a steeper variety.

The first mile or so was very easy going, and then we descended into Tresaith. We plopped onto a bench by the beach for a little while as there was some interesting activity going on, with people preparing their catamarans for the sea. There was one party with a dog, which had its own life vest on.

The forecast had been for some showers, but these barely made an appearance, and the few drops we had were welcome as it was a largely overcast and muggy day.

We considered detouring down to Penbryn beach, but pushed on. Further along we came to this beautiful spot.

We spotted a boat and a few people on the beach, but no obvious way down. Once we'd descended steeply down into the gully we followed a track which, with an interesting scramble, brought us onto the beach, and a welcome dip.

Tea and a biscuit rounded off a perfect break from the walk before we scrambled all the way back up again.

Another mile or so saw us into Llangrannog. More beaches, but we didn't fancy trying to get our wet gear back on.

Our pub/hotel, the Pentre Arms, is right on the beach - the green one.

After a shower we sat out in front of the pub with a pint, watching busy kids and less interesting adults for a couple of hours. And, drum roll please, we each saw a dolphin! Very briefly, admittedly. Mine was a slow, graceful grey arc above the waterline. Once only, unfortunately, but wonderful to see.

We booked for dinner in the pub, being one of only two eateries, requesting a table in the large picture window overlooking the sea.

This was duly provided, but our view was somewhat circumscribed by pub patrons standing immediately outside ....

You've got to laugh!

The grub was standard pub fare, but home cooked and hearty. After which we strolled briefly, as there's nowhere to go but along the coast path.

Amazing how different it looks when the tide is in.

So ends another lovely day. And with our windows open we can hear the sound of waves lapping the shore. It's quite loud, actually, but hopefully it will lull us to sleep!

Em x
